“I perhaps owe becoming a painter to flowers” - Claude Monet

Kathleen Warren

is inspired primarily by florals, crafting her own arrangements that often serve as subjects for her oil and watercolor paintings.

She loves to capture bold and beautiful colors amidst interesting shapes of shadows as sunlight passes through. Her product is what she wants an observer to see. She calls it “impressionistic realism.”

Landscapes, waterscapes, wildlife and architecture also call to her, capturing images for herself and others to cherish.

Kathy’s education as an artist has been developed through workshops in Rochester, NY and Charleston, SC. She started selling her paintings as a member of a cooperative gallery in Pittsford, NY in January of 2023.

Her favorite artist is Richard Schmidt, though she is also drawn to the works of Judy Soprano, Pat Rohrer, George Van Hook, Mary Whyte, Kyle Stuckey, Kelli Folsom and Elizabeth Robbins.

Railroad Lantern

11 x 14” oil on Centurion LX linen panel

This lantern came from my grandmother’s basement. Her house was built in 1930. We gave it a new wick and liquid fuel and lit it last Christmas for family. It burned too black to leave it lit for long but it is fun to imagine when it was needed for night visibility in the early 1900s.

This is a famous corner in Charleston, SC at Marion Square. It was late afternoon on a winter day where the sun was hitting only the buildings on the left side of the road. The church spire was particularly striking.
